...driving for success
Hello and thank you for visiting the official website 'Water Works' for the Victoria Park Leisure Centre refurbishment programme.
Our concept is a simple one - 'Water Works' is our picture guide to keep you up to date on the progress of the building works taking place at the leisure centre.
We have put together a selection of images from around the building plus the sod-turning ceremony which can be accessed below.
We will be updating these pages as the works progress so please check back regularly.
Work has already started on the £2.3m refurbishment programme at Victoria Park Leisure Centre in Ilkeston. A sod-cutting ceremony was held on Tuesday 18th January by Mike Wallis, Erewash Borough Council's Lead Member for Culture & Leisure to mark the start of the work.
New facilities will include: village-style changing areas; new sauna and steam room; improvements to the teaching pool; improved disabled facilities; new multipurpose room on the 2nd floor which can be used for meetings, training and work out sessions including zumba and aerobic classes; and a new reception with purpose built cafe area on the ground floor. Work will also include essential roof repairs and pool plant upgrading as well as new external lighting, landscaping and resurfaced car park and walk ways.
The benefits of swimming are clear; it offers everything from family fun to strenuous exercise. Swimming is one of the most enjoyed sporting activities for younger and older people - what other sport can be done by grandparents with their grandchildren? You can do it on your own or with family and friends, a sociable experience, a real hub of the community.
The Council's investment will transform Victoria Park into a modern leisure centre which will provide improved access and opportunities for the people of Ilkeston and the wider community to participate in sporting and physical activities.
